Conniveo for BBC Arts and Arts Council England
A virtual reality and physical installation commissioned by BBC Arts, exploring the hidden realities of ocean pollution.
Viewers are transported to a remote, uninhabited island — a place that initially appears untouched and idyllic. Free to explore, they are invited into a vibrant underwater world, where beauty quickly gives way to unease. A fishing net, caught between rocks, forms a threshold between two realities: one of illusion, and one shaped by human impact.
Participants are faced with a choice — to remain within the façade of paradise, or to follow the path into a polluted landscape, confronting the consequences of human activity.
Conniveo explores themes of plastic pollution, oil spills, dead zones, and ghost fishing, using immersive storytelling to place the viewer at the centre of the experience. The work reflects our approach of creating emotionally driven environments that challenge perception and encourage deeper awareness of our relationship with the natural world.
“Conniveo provides a poignant glimpse of a landscape far from civilisation but still scarred by human activity.”
